Our work
Populus works with a large number of clients – businesses, charities, local and national government, PR companies and political parties. Much of the work we do has to remain private and so some of the examples are anonymised but here is a selection of our work.
Premier League
Populus’s ongoing research programme has helped the Premier League maintain its position as the world’s most watched and lucrative club competition.
Blue Rubicon – Sing Up
Populus’s findings helped Blue Rubicon create a media story which resulted in significant coverage including BBC News, Daily Mirror, The Times, Daily Express, significant regional coverage and featured on various other media outlets.
Asda
Populus tracks the reputation of Asda among its most senior stakeholders, providing the company’s top management with a clear understanding of the issues that shape its reputation.
Saga
Saga commissioned Populus to build and operate what was to become Britain’s largest specialist panel of over-50 year olds. To date we have signed-up over 40,000 members among whom we run monthly polls.
Michael Ashcroft
Populus carried out the most extensive programme of political opinion research ever seen in Britain for Michael Ashcroft’s study Smell The Coffee: A Wake-Up Call For The Conservative Party.
Electricity North West
Populus designed and delivered a deliberative research programme by building the UK’s first Engaged Electricity Consumer Panel. The stakeholder audit provided detailed, actionable, recommendations for press and corporate affairs teams.
DLA Piper
Populus carried out interviews with Britain’s most senior business leaders leading to the report The Trust Deficit – Views from the Boardroom. This reinforced DLA Piper’s position as the leading business law firm and provided the firm with a licence to comment on trust and other issues.
RES
RES wanted to gain an understanding of how wind farms were perceived across the UK and how these views differed regionally and between differing groups. This information has been used to inform and target RES’s communications.
England and Wales Cricket Board
This Populus research identified the barriers for fans in attending international games and the results were used by the ECB to inform its 2011 summer advertising campaign.
Searchlight
Populus carried out a survey for Searchlight which provided crucial insight into people’s attitudes on race, the results of which transformed the debate on race and immigration in the UK.
British Sky Broadcasting
Populus has worked with BSkyB to identify and explain what drives levels of trust in the company among its key stakeholders and in particular the way these opinion formers perceived its CSR programme, The Bigger Picture.
Betting and gaming client
Populus came up with firm findings which demonstrated that catch-all messages or restrictions aimed at reducing ‘problem gambling’ would be likely to prove ineffective since those they targeted wouldn’t consider themselves as having a problem.
Syndicated stakeholder engagement study
PepsiCo
Populus has helped PepsiCo to understand its stakeholders for six years. In addition to conducting specific programmes of qualitative research for PepsiCo, Populus conducts an annual syndicated study (Stakeholder engagement study: Food Manufacturing Sector).
Syndicated stakeholder engagement studies
A range of our clients were concerned that measuring the attitudes of stakeholders was expensive and often not targeted directly on the stakeholders that really mattered to their sector.
