Populus research reveals the parking pitfalls at summer events

The country is gearing up for another bank holiday weekend, which is set to be one of the busiest of the year for summer events. Lots of people will head to shows and festivals, and many of them will be taking the car.

Upcoming festivals include Creamfields, Leeds, Reading and End of the Road Festival just to name a few. In the face of tasty take-away food, copious drinks and the prospect of a long bank holiday weekend, people might forget to think about the perils of parking at such events. However, research published this week shows that parking problems can catch out drivers.

The AA Populus Panel finds that many will struggle with remembering where they parked their car, once the party’s over.

The research shows that when it comes to parking, almost half (46%) of drivers will look for a memorable landmark at the end of a row. Yet around 3% admit to not thinking about it until it’s too late, resorting to using their remote to listen out for a beep that might be their car.

Drivers up and down the country will be looking forward to a weekend of festivals and summer shows. But with previous research by the AA Populus Panel revealing that almost nine in ten (87%) have experienced an issue that spoiled their summer trip, many could be in for a less relaxing weekend. The AA is issuing advice to help drivers avoid parking pitfalls.

John Snowling, AA Patrol of the Year, says:

“If you haven’t been to the event before, research parking before you go. There may be several entrances and exits for cars or different ways in or out depending on whether you are camping or towing a caravan.

It’s a good idea to make a note of where you parked. If there’s a car park number or colour, or any fixed landmarks nearby, take a picture or jot it down and keep the note with you, along with a map of the event site if there is one.”

The AA has launched its latest Car Genie app to help drivers find their vehicles, leaving them free to get on with enjoying the festivities without worry, this bank holiday weekend.
